How to manage Assessments
Assessments represent the most detailed level of the academic structure — they are the specific tests, assignments or examinations for which marks are captured. CAPS assessments are pre-loaded; administrators can create custom assessments or edit existing ones.
My School > System > Curriculum > Databases > Assessments
How do I filter assessments?
Select the Curriculum, Pre-setup, Grade, Subject and Learning outcome / Skill / Component.
Use the status toggles to view Active, Inactive or Deleted assessments.
How do I add a new assessment?
Click Add New.
Select the Assessment type: SBA, PAT (Practical), Exam or ANA. The system defaults to SBA — select the correct category to avoid calculation errors.
Enter the Name and Keyword in both English and Afrikaans.
Set DOE Assessment to Yes if it is a compulsory DBO requirement.
Enter the Mark out of (maximum mark), Weight within the parent task, and the Order and DOE Order numbers.
Click Save.
How do I edit an existing assessment?
Click on the assessment row to open the editable fields.
Adjust the name, keyword, status, DOE assessment, assessment type, mark out of or order as needed.
Click Accept Changes.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the Mark out of value not change on a learner's marks?
The Mark out of value cannot be changed once marks have already been captured. The change would mathematically invalidate existing percentages. Remove all marks first before editing the total.
Why must I be careful with the DOE Order?
The DOE Order is directly linked to SA-SAMS export structures. An incorrect order can cause data to be rejected by departmental systems during quarterly uploads.
