Communication Groups

Communication Groups

Communication Groups are the links between Parents, Other Contacts, and d6 Connect content. Multi-platform and d6 Connect messages can be sent to members of these groups. Members have access to resources, calendar events, or messages published to groups — but only if they are linked to the relevant group.

Dynamic and Custom Groups

Dynamic groups

These private group channels are automatically created by the system from existing data. Various dynamic channel groups are available for Parents, Staff, and Learners. These channels are updated during the Administrative Year-end Rollover to the following year. Dynamic channels cannot be deleted.

Custom groups

Create your own channel group that can include Parents, Learners, Other contacts, and Staff. Custom channels can be Private or Public:

  • Private: Content is only visible to users specifically linked to the channel by the school administrator.

  • Public: Content is accessible to anyone who downloads the d6 Communicator app and chooses to follow the school as a public follower.

How do I create a custom group?

  1. Click Create group, enter the name in Afrikaans and English, and select Private or Public.

  2. Add members by selecting Parents, Learners, Staff, Other contacts, Custom numbers, or Custom addresses.

  3. Click Save.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Dynamic and Custom groups?

Dynamic groups are automatically created and updated by the system. Custom groups are manually created and managed by the school administrator.

Why can't I edit a Dynamic group?

Dynamic groups are created from system data and updated during the Year-end Rollover. Only Custom groups can be manually edited.

What happens when I delete a group?

All information linked to the group will also be deleted. Dynamic groups cannot be deleted. Take care before deleting a Custom group — the action cannot be undone.
