This guide walks educators through every step of capturing marks for learners on the d6 platform, from checking access rights through entering marks to generating reports.
My School > People: Learners > Learner Marks > Marks per Group
Your school administrator must grant you marks capture rights via My School > System > Curriculum > Curriculum Setup > Marks Capture Rights.
Automatic rights: If you are designated as a Subject Head (pink) or Subject Group Teacher (blue), the system grants capture rights automatically.
Manual rights: Your administrator assigns rights via the Per Staff Member or Per Subject tabs.
Visibility options control whether you can view marks for subjects you are not assigned to. When enabled, you can view all marks but only edit your assigned classes.
The curriculum follows a three-level hierarchy:
Subject level (red): The subject itself (e.g. Mathematics).
Task/Learning Outcome level (orange): Components within a subject (e.g. SBA, Examination).
Assessment level (green): Specific tests or assignments for which marks are captured.
For CAPS-aligned schools these levels are pre-loaded. Each assessment has a type (SBA, PAT, Examination or ANA) that determines how it is calculated.
Click on the relevant Year and then the Term.
Click Select Grade and then Select Subject.
Choose the entry level: Red = subject, Orange = task/LO, Green = assessment.
Click Capture marks (0) and select the correct Subject Group.
Navigate to the Mark 1 tab. You can rename this column by clicking on it.
Enter marks and press Tab or Enter. A green block confirms the mark has been saved.
Once totals appear in brackets (e.g. (137)), your marks are saved.
= button: Recalculates marks. Seldom needed as d6 saves automatically.
a button: Fills in absent for all learners without marks.
x button: Permanently deletes all marks for the group. Use with extreme care.
To edit an existing mark, click the value, type the new mark and press Tab. Click the green Plus (+) to add Mark 2. The platform averages all columns automatically.
Use the Mark Statements at Reports > Learners > Marks and Achievements > Mark Sheet:
Captured Marks Verification Sheet: Spots missing data.
Calculated Mark Sheet: Show Assessments, With Empty, Mark out of, Raw or Weighted marks. Can choose if you want to see it per Subject Group, Verifies final percentages.
Detailed Mark Sheet: Per-learner breakdown. Best for parent queries. Also best to see how the end mark for the subject was calculated.
Subjects Mark Sheet: Consolidated final marks per learner.
Working Mark Sheet: Exports to Excel for Department submissions.
Navigate to My School > People: Learners > Learner Marks: Export Marks and Statistics. Select Academic Year and Phase, choose Current or All Learners, then click Export.
Navigate to My School > System > Curriculum > Promotion Requirements > Term Decisions. Select Year, Grade, Curriculum and Term. The system shows Achieved (A) or Not Achieved (NA). Hover over the (i) next to a learner for details.
Go to Reports > Learners > Marks and Achievements > Report Cards.
Select Report Template, Year, Term and Curriculum.
For year-end reports, select Promotion Mark for the correct promotion formulae.
Choose Language and who to print for.
Click Generate Reports to create a PDF bundle.
To email reports, click Email Reports at the bottom (requires the email release right).
Navigate to My School > Curriculum > Curriculum Setup > Marks Log. Filter by year, grade, subject, assessment and date range. Click Pull Details to see Date, Staff Member, Action and Previous/New mark values. Full version history is available for entries after 27 October 2023.
A green block appears next to the mark as you enter it, and the total in brackets (e.g. (137)) is visible alongside the subject.
You likely do not have marks capture rights. Ask your school's superuser (The person logging in with the username: Superuser) to check that you have View and Edit rights for module 2.2 Learner Marks and that you are assigned to the correct subject group.
Differences are typically due to weight configurations in the Curriculum Setup. Use the Detailed Mark Sheet to audit the calculation.
No. Marks for locked Terms cannot be modified. You can still view and report on them for historical accuracy.
Term results do not apply the statutory weights required for promotion. Promotion Mark uses the correct formulae for the final year-end result, including all term assessments, and not just one term.
Pink = automatic rights for Subject Head. Blue = automatic rights for Subject Group Teacher. Black = manually assigned rights.
