How does the Wonde integration work with d6 Communicator?

This article explains what the Wonde integration is, how it connects your School's Administration and Management System (SAMS) to the d6 Communicator Portal, and how to get started. It is intended for school administrators and d6 support staff.

What is the Wonde integration?

The Wonde integration automatically synchronises school data — students, parents, staff, groups, and classes — from your School's Administration and Management System  (such as Ed-Admin, SA-SAMS, ADAM or Edupac) into the d6 Communicator Portal. This eliminates manual data entry, keeps your community up to date, and ensures communications always reach the correct audience.

  • Automated data management: Student, parent, and staff records sync automatically from your Management System.

  • Granular group control: Map specific school groups and classes to d6 communication groups using assignment sets.

  • Year-end rollover: When students are promoted to new year groups in your Management System, d6 groups update automatically with minimal  manual intervention.

  • Time-saving: No more manually managing group memberships as school data changes throughout the year.

How does a school get set up with Wonde?

The onboarding process involves five steps:

  1. Wonde contacts the school: Wonde reaches out to the school and provides them with a profile to access their own Wonde Dashboard.

  2. School approves d6 Communicator: The school finds d6 Communicator on the Wonde Dashboard, selects the specific data permissions they want to grant, and approves access.

  3. School obtains the API key: The school contacts their School Management provider (Ed-Admin, SA-SAMS, ADAM or Edupac) and requests the API key needed for the integration.

  4. Wonde integration team completes setup: The school provides the API key to the Wonde integration team, who configure everything. This typically takes around 15 minutes.

  5. Audit confirmation and mapping meeting: d6 receives an email confirming that the data audit was successful. A meeting is then arranged with the school to complete the group mapping using assignment sets.

What happens after setup is complete?

Once the integration is live, d6 automatically syncs data from Wonde three times per day. The school's Management System becomes the single source of truth — any changes to student records, parent contacts, or staff details in the Management System flow through to d6 automatically. Schools can also request a manual sync if urgent updates are needed.

Frequently asked questions

Which School Administration and Management systems does Wonde support?

Wonde works with a range of providers including Ed-Admin, SA-SAMS, ADAM and Edupac. The school connects Wonde to their MIS, and Wonde handles the data exchange with d6.

How long does it take to set up the Wonde integration?

The technical setup takes approximately 15 minutes once the API key is provided. The full onboarding process — including school approval, API key retrieval, and the mapping meeting — typically takes a few days.

Can I edit members that were synced from Wonde?

No. Members synced from Wonde cannot be manually edited in d6. Any changes must be made in the school's Management System, and the next sync will update d6 automatically. Manually created members are not affected by Wonde syncs.

Does the school need to approve data access before the integration works?

Yes. The school must log into their Wonde Dashboard, find d6 Communicator, select the permissions they want to grant, and approve access before any data can sync.

What if the school has not been approved by Wonde yet?

The integration can be installed, but syncs will not retrieve any data until Wonde approves the school for data access. The school should contact Wonde support to complete approval.
