The Report Card Builder is the design surface where you create or edit a Flexible Report Card template. It uses a drag-and-drop interface across three panels: Components on the left, the Canvas in the centre, and Settings on the right. This article covers the three panels, how to add, move, resize, and delete components, working with pages, and saving and previewing. For admin users designing report card templates.
Reports > Learners > Marks and Achievements > Flexible Report Cards > Create or Edit Template
From the Setup Screen, click Create New Template to open the Builder with a blank canvas, or select an existing template and click Edit Chosen Template. The Builder shows three panels: Components (left), Canvas (centre), and Settings (right).
Components are grouped into four categories. Drag a component from the left panel and drop it onto the canvas to add it.
School Data: School name, address, telephone, email, and term dates.
Scale Table: The mark or effort rating scale used by the school.
Learner Data: Full name, ID number, class, and house.
Marks Grid: Main marks table showing subject results, grades, averages, and positions.
Remarks: Remarks captured per learner, term, or grade.
Promotion Requirements: Promotion decision, requirements, and comments.
Extracurricular Activities: Sports and other activities.
Heading: Styled text heading for sections.
Text: Free-text paragraph or label.
List: Formatted list of items.
Image: Insert a logo, photo, or other image.
School Stamp, Watermark, Signature: Add stamp, full-page background, or signature.
Date: The printed date.
Divider: Horizontal line to separate sections.
The canvas is the centre panel and shows a life-size preview of the page as you design. It includes a ruler along the top and left edges (millimetres), dashed lines marking the safe content area, an optional alignment grid, and all components you have placed.
Move: Click and hold the drag handle (dot-grid icon in the top-left of the component), then drag to a new position.
Resize: Click the component to select it, then drag any edge or corner.
Select: Click anywhere on the component. Its settings appear in the right panel.
Delete: Select the component, then click Delete Component at the bottom of the right panel.
If a component's content is too large for its box, a warning indicator appears. Resize the component or adjust its content to clear it.
Use the navigation controls at the bottom-right of the screen:
< and >: Move to the previous or next page.
+ Add Page: Add a new blank page.
− Delete Page: Delete the current page. Not available on the first page.
Each page is independent so you can use different components and settings per page.
When no component is selected, the right panel shows the page layout settings:
Page Size: A4 (210x297mm) or A5 (148x210mm).
Orientation: Portrait or Landscape.
Margins: Top, bottom, left, and right margins in millimetres.
Show Footer: Toggle a footer on or off.
Footer Height: Height of the footer area in millimetres.
Page Number Format: Number only, "X of Y", or "X/Y".
Page Number Prefix/Suffix: Optional text before or after the page number.
When a footer is enabled, content cannot be placed over it. The footer shows the printed date on the left and page number on the right.
When a component is selected, the right panel shows tabs of settings for that component. Common tabs include:
General: Size, position, layout, and alignment options.
Label and Value: Styling for label text and data values (font weight, colour, case, underline).
Fields: Choose which fields to show (for School Data or Learner Data).
Styles: Colours, borders, padding, and fonts.
Columns, Headings, Remarks, Summaries: Marks Grid only. Choose columns, customise heading labels, configure remarks, and show class position, averages, or absence counts.
Save: Click Save Template in the top-right corner at any time. The template name in the top bar must be filled in. A success message confirms the save.
Preview: Click Preview. The template saves first, then opens a sample PDF in a new browser tab using a random learner's data from the previous term.
Exit: Click Back to Setup in the top-left. The template saves automatically before navigating away.
Drag the component from the left panel and drop it onto the canvas. Click on it to select it and adjust its settings in the right panel.
Click the component to select it, then click Delete Component at the bottom of the right panel.
Yes. Each page on the canvas is independent so you can add different components and settings per page.
All components on that page are permanently removed. You cannot delete the only remaining page.
The content is too large for the component's box. Either resize the component to be bigger, or reduce the content inside it.
