How to manage Learning Outcomes, Tasks and Components
Learning Outcomes (LOs) or Tasks represent the specific components that make up a subject's assessment structure. For public schools these are pre-loaded according to CAPS requirements. Administrators can create or edit components to meet specific school requirements.
My School > System: Curriculum > Databases: LO, Task or Component
How do I view and filter tasks?
Select the Curriculum, Pre-setup, Grade and Subject from the filters. Ensure the correct CAPS year is selected if using a pre-configured curriculum.
The Usage column shows which year and terms a task is currently linked to — use this to avoid accidentally editing a component used across multiple terms.
Toggle between status filters to view Active, Inactive or Deleted items.
How do I add a new Learning Outcome/Task?
Click Add New. The Curriculum, Grade and Subject fields auto-populate based on your filters.
Enter the Name and Code in both Afrikaans and English.
Select whether it is a General test or a Task.
Select Yes at Official DBE if it is a compulsory DBE component.
Enter a Sequence number to determine the display order on reports.
Click Save.
How do I edit an existing task?
Click on the task in the data grid to open the editable fields.
Edit the Name, Code or Sequence as required.
Click Accept Changes.
Frequently asked questions
Why can I not delete a task?
If the task is currently used in an active Learning Programme, it cannot be deleted. First remove the task from the Learning Programme setup before deleting it.
What happens if I edit a CAPS task?
It may cause a mismatch with Pre-configured Promotion Formulas, as formulas look for specific task name and code matches. Only edit CAPS tasks when absolutely necessary.
