How to set up and manage Assessments

Assessments represent the most granular level of the academic structure — the specific tests, assignments or exams for which marks are captured. For CAPS schools, assessments are pre-loaded; administrators can create custom assessments or edit existing ones to align with specific school needs.

My School > System  >  Curriculum > Databases > Assessments

How do I view assessments?

  1. Select the Curriculum, Grade, Subject and Task/Learning Outcome/Component from the filters.

  2. Use the status toggles to view Active, Inactive or Deleted assessments. The list shows all assessments linked to the selected task.

How do I add a new assessment?

  1. Click Add New (the filter fields auto-populate at the bottom of the screen).

  2. Assessment Type: Choose from SBA, PAT (Practical), Examination or ANA. The system defaults to SBA — select the correct type to avoid calculation errors in Learning Programme Setup.

  3. Enter the Name and a short Keyword in both English and Afrikaans.

  4. Tick Official DOE if the assessment is a mandatory requirement from the Department of Education.

  5. Enter the Mark Out Of (maximum possible mark), Weighting Factor and Ordering (sequence for internal reports) and DOE Ordering (sequence for departmental schedules).

  6. Click Submit.

How do I edit an existing assessment?

  1. Click on the assessment row to open the editable fields.

  2. Adjust the name, weighting or ordering as required.

  3. Click Accept Changes.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t I change the Mark Out Of?

The Mark Out Of field cannot be edited once marks have been captured for that assessment. Changing the total would invalidate existing learner scores and percentages. All marks for that assessment must be deleted before the total can be modified.

Can I change the Assessment Type after marks have been captured?

Not as a regular user. Changing the type (e.g. SBA to Examination) shifts how the mark is handled in the final promotion formula and can significantly impact a learner’s passing status. Contact support@d6plus.co.za for assistance.
