How to set up and use Effort Ratings

How to set up and use Effort Ratings

Effort ratings are additional grading scales or symbols used alongside academic marks to evaluate a learner's input, behaviour or progress. These ratings appear on reports as a separate column next to the subject marks and provide a qualitative measure that complements the quantitative percentage.

My School > System: Curriculum > Curriculum Setup > Effort Ratings

How do I set up a new effort rating?

  1. If a new scale system is required (e.g. converting from a 1–7 scale to an A–G symbol system), send a request to support@d6plus.co.za. The support team sets up the technical parameters so that the correct symbols are linked to the correct values.

  2. Navigate to My School > Curriculum > Curriculum Setup > Effort Ratings.

  3. Click Add New.

  4. Enter the Description (e.g. “Behaviour” or “Effort”) in Afrikaans and English.

  5. Select the applicable Scale system from the drop-down.

  6. Enter an Ordering number to determine the order on the report.

  7. Move the relevant academic year to the right side to activate it.

  8. Click Save.

How do teachers capture effort ratings?

  1. Go to My School > Learners > Learner Marks > Marks per Group.

  2. Select the applicable Year, Term and Subject.

  3. Click on the Capture icon for the relevant class.

  4. An additional column for the Effort rating appears directly next to the marks column.

How do I activate effort ratings on a report?

  1. Go to Reports > Learners > Marks and Achievements > Reports.

  3. Click on the Effort ratings tab.

  4. Select the display method: Level, Percentage or Both.

  5. Move the specific effort ratings from the left to the right side.

  6. Click Save.

Frequently asked questions

The effort rating column does not appear in the mark capture screen — why?

The rating is likely not activated for the relevant academic year. Go to the Effort Ratings setup, select the rating and move the correct year to the right side.

The effort rating does not appear on the report — what do I do?

The report template must also be configured. Follow the steps under “How do I activate effort ratings on a report?” above to enable the rating on the template.

Can I change the scale system (symbols and values) myself?

No. The mathematical logic of the scale system is managed by d6 support to ensure data integrity. Send a request to support@d6plus.co.za if a new scale system is required.
