Learning Programmes serve as the foundational framework for the academic year. They define the curriculum, grading scales, and promotion logic applied to a specific grade and term. A Learning Programme must be active for every grade and term to enable the rest of the curriculum setup.
My School > System > Curriculum > Curriculum Setup > Learning Programmes
The Learning Programmes module allows administrators to:
Define the academic curriculum and grading standards (Scale Sets) for each grade per term.
Apply d6 Presets to automatically populate Department of Basic Education (DBE) compliant tasks, assessments, and weights.
Configure the release dates for academic marks to the d6 Connect application.
Set the promotion and endorsement method required according to the selected curriculum.
Click the Add New button.
Year: Select the academic year for which the programme is being created.
Grade: Choose the grade.
Terms: Activate the required terms by selecting the term and moving it to the right.
Scale Set: Choose the applicable grading scale (e.g., CAPS Scales).
Note: If a custom scale set is required, contact d6 Support.
Curriculum: Select the relevant curriculum (e.g., CAPS).
Preset: Select the applicable CAPS Year Preset to auto-fill assessment structures. Select No Preset if you intend to manually build the curriculum tasks.
Task mark: Choose the task marks calculation method this is the calculation used when exports are made to SA-SAMS.
Alias (Afr/Eng): Adjust the naming convention if necessary; these names appear in the system where the curriculum has to be selected.
Promotion: Choose the method with which to calculate the pass/fail results.
Click Submit.
Locate the d6 App mark release date column for the relevant term.
Select the calendar icon to set the date when marks become visible to parents on d6 Communicator.
If left blank, marks will remain hidden from the mobile application.
The system provides Presets aligned with the latest Department of Education (DOE) requirements (SA-SAMS patches).
Automation: Selecting a Preset automatically generates all required tasks, weights, and promotion formulas for the grade.
Manual Overrides: If a user manually alters tasks while using the preset, the preset button will not be available under Promotion Formulas, requiring you to set up these formulas manually.
Data Overwrites: Deleting a learning program for a term will remove everything that has been set up for the curriculum for that term.
Users can filter the Learning Programme list by status: Active, Inactive, or Deleted. Deleted programmes are highlighted in red for clear distinction.
Locked Promotion Methods: Standard promotion and endorsement calculation methods are linked to the curriculum setup. These cannot be modified by users under learning programmes. If you need to set up your own these needs to be created under decision methods.
Release Date Warnings: The system triggers a dashboard task five days prior to the d6 Communicator app mark release date. This serves as a validation window for staff to ensure all marks are verified before parental access is granted.
Curriculum Constraints: To run multiple curricula simultaneously (e.g., CAPS and Cambridge) within the same grade, backend configuration by d6 Support is required to maintain database stability and reporting logic.
