Linking an External Calendar

Linking an External Calendar

You can import events from Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, or iCal directly into the d6 Communicator Portal. This means you only need to manage one calendar — events added elsewhere will appear automatically for your community.

Calendar → Manage Calendars → Link a New Calendar

  1. Go to Calendar → Manage Calendars → Link a New Calendar.

  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to sign in to your external calendar account.

  3. Select the calendar you want to sync with the portal.

  4. Choose which Groups should see the imported events.

How does each calendar type sync?

  • Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook: These are two-way synced. If you add, change, or delete an event in one, it automatically updates in the other.

  • iCal: This is a one-time import. The portal copies your events at the time of import, but any changes made to the iCal calendar afterwards will not update automatically. You would need to re-import to reflect changes.

Frequently asked questions

Does the sync work both ways for Google Calendar?

Yes. Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook both use two-way sync. Events added, changed, or deleted in either calendar will automatically update in the other.

Will iCal events update automatically after importing?

No. iCal uses a one-time import. Changes made to your iCal calendar after the import will not appear in d6. You would need to re-import to get the latest events.

Can I control which groups see the imported events?

Yes. During the linking process, you choose which groups should see the imported events. Only members of those groups will see the events on their App calendar.
