Linking Parents and Children

Linking Parents and Children

Linking connects a parent to their child in the system. This is important because when you send a message to a Grade group, the system can automatically include the linked parents — without you having to manually select them.

Members → [Member Name] → Parents / Children

  1. Open an existing member's profile by clicking their name in the Members list.

  2. Click Parents or Children (depending on who you want to link to this member).

  3. Search for the parent or child you want to link and select them.

  4. Click Save. The two members are now linked.

Why is linking important?

When you send a message to a Grade group, you can use Advanced Targeting to send to linked parents automatically — without having to select each parent individually. Accurate linking ensures the right people receive the right messages.

Tips

  • Multiple guardians: You can link more than two guardians to a child. After saving the initial two parents, use the Parents tab on the learner's profile to add additional guardians.

Frequently asked questions

Why should I link parents and children?

Linking allows the system to automatically include parents when you send a message to a Grade group using Advanced Targeting. Without linking, you would need to manually select each parent.

Can I link more than two parents to a single child?

Yes. After linking the initial parents, open the learner's profile and use the Parents tab to add additional guardians such as a grandparent or step-parent.

Can I link parents and children during the bulk import?

Yes, if you use the Advanced Import option. This allows you to include parent-child relationships in your spreadsheet so they are linked automatically during the import.

How do I unlink a parent from a child?

Open the member's profile, go to the Parents or Children tab, find the linked person, and remove the link. Click Save to confirm.
