Message Components: What Can I Add to a Message?

Each message in d6 Communicator is built using content blocks (also called components). You can combine multiple blocks in a single message. This article explains what each block does and when to use it.

Messages → New → Component buttons in Message Builder

What components can I add to a message?

  • Text: Written announcements, instructions, or updates. Use the styling toolbar to format text. Includes AI Assist to help you write. Contact support@d6ed.co.za to activate AI Assist.

  • File: Upload documents such as newsletters or resources. Maximum size: 50MB per file.

  • Event: Share event details with date, time, location, and optional calendar reminders for members.

  • Form: Collect responses: Yes/No questions, multiple choice, text answers, or file/image uploads. You can set a deadline for form responses.

  • Vote: Run elections (for example, SGB elections) with candidate lists and deadlines. Contact support@d6ed.co.za to activate this feature.

  • Image: Share photos. Maximum size: 8MB per image. If you add 5 or more images, an album is created automatically.

  • YouTube: Embed a YouTube video by pasting the link into the component.

  • Contact: Share a person's contact details (for example, an excursion trip leader's phone number).

  • Payment Item: Request payment for excursions, photo day, textbooks, and more. Can be open amount, fixed amount, or itemised. The itemised option allows you to track available stock quantities.

  • Location: Drop a Google Maps pin so parents can get directions to an event or venue.

Tips

  • Reorder components: You can drag and drop message components to reorder them using the six-dot icon at the bottom centre of each component.

  • Mix freely: Combine multiple components in a single message — for example, a Text block with an Image and a Form.
