How to set up Result Methods

The Result Methods module sets the logical criteria the system uses to determine whether a learner is promoted, retained or transferred. Rules are configured per education phase and are essential for accurate year-end results and promotion schedules.

My School > System > Curriculum > Pass Requirements > Result Methods

Step 1 — Create a result method

  1. Select the Year and Phase, then click Add.

  2. Enter a descriptive Name in both Afrikaans and English.

  3. Select the Type: Promotion result or Endorsement (e.g. Bachelor's pass / Diploma). Tip: Copy an existing DOE method and adjust the rules to save time.

Step 2 — Define decisions (Decision tab)

  1. Navigate to the Decision tab and click Add.

  2. Select a result: Promoted, Retained, Transferred with adjustment or Transferred due to Phase/Age.

  3. Enter the Short codes (e.g. P, R) and full Descriptions in both languages, then click Save.

Step 3 — Set up calculation rules

  1. Navigate to the Calculation Rules tab and click Add.

  2. Define the criteria (e.g. Must pass Home Language at 50% or Must pass any 3 subjects at 40%).

  3. Repeat for all decisions required for the phase and click Save.

Frequently asked questions

Why can I not change the phase after I have started?

The education phase cannot be changed once creation of the method has begun. This prevents cross-contamination of data and ensures that phase-specific logic remains isolated for accurate reporting.
