This article explains how to send SMS messages in d6. The SMS function provides the opportunity to communicate with parents, staff, learners, debtors, channels and own numbers regarding discipline, sports events, outstanding balances and general communication.

The SMS function provides the opportunity to communicate with parents, staff, learners, debtors, channels and own numbers. The communication module can send SMS messages to various countries. You can select country codes when managing own numbers or own channels. Note: due to technical restrictions, recipients in some countries will not be able to reply to messages.
A screen will open where you can select the audience (recipients), the date and time the SMS must be sent, and whether the same SMS must be sent to everyone or according to preferred language. Enter the message.
Select the parent information and which learner's parents should receive the SMS.
Select which parents and which gender.
Select families in the left block and click the right arrow to select them.
Select parents of specific learners, grades, waiting lists or classes as needed.
Make your selection in the SMS for field and select learners.
Select which learners should receive the SMS: current learners, departed learners (alma mater) or registered learners (waiting list).
Select the learners per grade or per class.
Select whether you want to use a pre-set SMS by clicking Yes.
Choose between Send debtor's reference number or Send family code and outstanding balance.
Select from all debtors, only families with children still at the school, only families with no children at the school, selected families or selected debtors by levy category.
Select between All staff members, Select categories or Select staff members.
Select the category or staff members and transfer to the right block.
Channels: Select between all channels or select channels. Select channels in the left block and transfer to the right block.
Own numbers: Enter a number in the field and click Add. You can also remove incorrect numbers by moving them back to the left.
SMS messages can accommodate up to 612 characters (maximum 4 parts). Messages longer than 160 characters are sent in multiple parts, so costs are calculated per message part and not per SMS.
Yes. The communication module can send SMS messages to various countries. You can select country codes when managing own numbers or own channels.
Due to technical restrictions in some countries, recipients will not be able to reply to messages they receive from the d6 system.
Yes. When setting up a new SMS, you can choose whether the same SMS is sent to everyone or according to preferred language.
