Student Portal — User Guide

Student Portal — User Guide

Introduction

The Parent Portal has been renamed to the Student Portal. Whether you are a parent or a student, you will access the Student Portal through the d6 Communicator App. Students logged in with their own credentials will now be able to view their own school information directly.

Types of Users

There are three types of users who can access the Student Portal:

  • Students — Log in using their own email address or cellphone number.

  • Parents — Log in using their own email address or cellphone number.

  • Viewers (e.g. grandparents or au pairs) — Once a parent has granted viewer access, viewers log in using their own email address or cellphone number.

Important for schools: Students must be registered in the d6 Communicator App with their own email address as reflected on the d6 School Management Portal. If a student logs in using a parent’s email address, they will see parent-level information, not student-level information.

Accessing the Student Portal

The Student Portal is not a separate website or app — it lives inside the d6 Communicator App. There is no separate URL or standalone login page.

Step-by-Step: How to Log In

Step 1: Open the App

Download the d6 Communicator App from the App Store, or access the desktop or web version.

Step 2: Enter Login Details

Students must use the email address the school has registered for them. Click Continue.

Step 3: Enter the OTP

A one-time pin (OTP) will be sent to the registered email address. Enter the OTP and click Continue. If it does not arrive, check spam/junk. If expired, request a new one.

Step 4: Recovery Mobile Number

The App will prompt for a recovery mobile number. Click Skip to bypass this step.

Step 5: Select the Portal

Click Student Portal on the App home screen. The school linked to the student’s profile will appear. Click Proceed.

What Students Can See

Students can view information only — they cannot edit or change anything.

  • Overview: Personal information and student name.

  • Marks: Subject marks per term, percentages, and historical years.

  • Timetable: Class schedule including subject, educator, and venue.

  • Attendance: Attendance totals and absence records.

  • Discipline: Behaviour records and recognitions.

Important: Finance information is not visible to students. Only parents can view financial details.

Who Has Access to What?

  • Student (own school-registered email): Marks, timetable, attendance, discipline.

  • Parent (own school-registered email): All of the above, plus finance and ability to edit personal information.

  • Viewer (added by the parent): Marks, attendance, and discipline only.

Timetables: What Schools Need to Know

Timetables are automatically pulled from the school’s Timetabler system. Schools do not need to manually upload timetables. The school must be subscribed to d6 Timetabler for this feature to work. If timetables are not showing, the issue is likely with the Timetabler setup, not the portal itself.

Adding Extra Viewers

A parent can add an extra viewer within the Student Portal. Viewers can only see marks, attendance, and discipline. To add a viewer: log in, click Your Profile, scroll to Add Viewer, and add the viewer via their email address or mobile number.

Common Issues and Quick Fixes

  • Student sees parent information: Ensure the student logs in with their own email, not a parent’s.

  • Timetable not showing: Confirm the school subscribes to d6 Timetabler and the system is correctly configured.

  • OTP not received: Check spam/junk, or request a new OTP.

  • Cannot access the portal: Confirm the student has a valid email or mobile number on their learner profile in d6.

  • Login not recognised: The email must match exactly what the school has on record.

What Schools Should Communicate

  • Students now have their own login for the Student Portal.

  • Students must use their own email address to log in — not a parent’s.

  • The portal is accessed through the d6 Communicator App — not a separate website.

  • Students can only view their information — they cannot make changes.

  • The portal was previously called the Parent Portal. The name has changed to Student Portal.

Need Help?

If students or parents experience login issues, they should contact the school administration in the first instance. For technical support: Schools — support@d6plus.co.za | Parents/Students — appsupport@d6.co.za
