Set up optional results for academic criteria

Set up optional results for academic criteria

Optional results allow you to display additional information on learner certificates and reports, such as a percentage average or position in grade. This is useful when printing certificates for top-performing learners where averages and positions need to appear.

My School > System > Achievements > Databases: Academic Criteria

How do I set up optional results?

  1. Click the Create Optional Result button in the Optional Results tab.

  2. Enter the Result Name in the Afrikaans and English fields. This name is used to identify the optional result in the selected criteria. More than one formula can be grouped under the same name.

  3. Enter the Identifier Name in the Afrikaans and English fields. These indicate the different formulas set up for the optional result (e.g. Pupil average, Position in grade).

  4. Click the Formula tab to proceed to formula configuration.

How do I configure the formula?

Setting up an average formula

  1. Drag the Average function onto the red dots.

  2. Drag the Mark function onto the value field.

  3. Drag Term 1 and Term 2 onto values 1 and 2.

  4. To add additional terms, hover your mouse over the current values and click the Add Parameter button to create an additional field.

  5. Drag the additional term (e.g. Term 3) onto the red dots.

  6. Click on "precision" and type "2" to round off the average to 2 decimal points.

Setting up a position in grade formula

To display the position in grade based on the average of multiple terms, set up a formula using the Position function with the same term marks as used in the average formula.

Important information

Grade averages for learners are calculated excluding the marks of LSEN learners. The grade average for LSEN learners is calculated separately with the marks of all LSEN learners in the grade.

Frequently asked questions

Can I group multiple formulas under one optional result?

Yes, more than one formula can be grouped under the same Result Name. Each formula will have its own Identifier Name.

Where do the optional result fields appear?

The identifier names you create will appear as fields in the Achievement setup, where they can be used when configuring achievement text for certificates.

How are LSEN learner averages calculated?

LSEN learner marks are excluded from the general grade average. A separate grade average is calculated for LSEN learners using only their marks.

Can I change the precision of a formula after it has been set up?

Yes, you can edit the precision value at any time by clicking on the precision field in the formula and changing the number of decimal points.
