How to do a bank reconciliation

How to do a bank reconciliation

There are two types of bank reconciliation in d6+. The first is a partially automated process where imported bank statements are reconciled with any account from which statements can be drawn (excluding the petty cash account and short-term investment accounts). The second is a manual process used for petty cash and short-term investment accounts, where no bank statements can be imported.

Finances > Cashbook  >  Reconciliation

To go into a reconciliation that is already imported/have transactions on, go to Finances > Cashbook > Reconciliation > Do a bank reconciliation > Choose the bank account and click on Continue > Click on the eye icon next to the month of the reconciliation you need to work in.

What do the entry colours mean?

  • Orange — Outstanding items not yet reconciled.

  • Yellow — Suggestive reconciliation entries (matched by amount and date).

  • Pink — Suggestive entries where dates differ by more than 10 days.

  • Blue — Reconciling items that balance.

  • Red — Reconciling items that do not balance.

  • Green — Fully reconciled entries.

How do I do an automated bank reconciliation?

  1. Click Do a bank reconciliation, select the bank account, and click Continue.

  2. Change the date at the bottom to control which transactions are displayed, then click Show.

  3. Orange items: click the blue description link to issue the missing receipt or payment — the entry turns green.

  4. Yellow items: matched by system. If incorrect, click the date on the right to un-link.

  5. Blue items: click the circle next to an orange item, then click the matching date on the right. Multiple items can be selected until totals balance.

Reconciling at month-end

  1. All left-hand transactions must be green, blue, or yellow.

  2. Enter the reconciliation date and click Show, then Continue.

  3. Review the summary block. If correct, click Yes.

How do I do a manual bank reconciliation (petty cash)?

  1. Select the petty cash account and click Continue twice.

  2. Choose the reconciliation date and click Continue.

  3. Tick the deposits and payments to include. Enter the physical cash balance. If difference is zero, click Continue.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the system not allow me to reconcile at month-end?

Two common reasons: (1) At least one day of the next month's bank statement has not been imported. (2) A transaction is matched across two months — unlink those transactions first, reconcile the month, then re-link them in the next month.

How do I find a transaction linked to the wrong month?

Open the month, scroll to the bottom, click Show. Press Ctrl + F and search for the next month (format: YYYY-MM). Unlink the transaction by clicking its date on the right, reconcile, then re-link it in the correct month.
