How to set up a Learning Programme

The Learning Programme defines the academic structure for each grade and term. It determines which subjects, components and assessments are offered and establishes the weighting for marks calculation. The system is pre-loaded with CAPS-aligned subjects and components; schools must configure their specific requirements each academic year.

My School > Curriculum > Curriculum Setup > Setup Learning Programme

Select the Year, Grade, Curriculum and Term before proceeding through the steps in order.

Step 1 — Choose Subjects

  1. Select the subjects offered for the grade from the left-hand column.

  2. Use the Right Arrow to move subjects to the allocated column.

  3. Click Submit.

Step 2 — Setup Subject

  1. Define the weightings for SBA, Practical and Examination for each subject. The total must equal 100%.

  2. Foundation Phase: typically SBA 100%. Intermediate/Senior: weights vary by term (e.g. Term 4 may include a 25% Exam weight).

  3. You can assign a Subject Head if need be.

  4. Part of Average - Yes/No (does the subject count as part of the average?)

  5. Click Accept Changes.

Step 3 — Choose LO / Tasks

  1. Select a Subject and an applicable Preset.

  2. Select the required components LO/Tasks from the left column (e.g. Geography and History for Social Sciences) and move them to the right.

  3. Click Submit.

Step 4 — Setup LO / Task (weightings)

  1. Using the preset option, the system distributes weights equally. To adjust, double-click the Weight for component field and enter the percentage manually.

  2. Click Accept Changes.

Step 5 — Choose Assessments

  1. Select the Subject and the specific LO/Task (if applicable).

  2. Select the assessments from the left column and use the Right Arrow to allocate them.

  3. Click Submit.

Step 6 — Setup Assessments

  1. Select the Subject and the specific LO/Task (if applicable)

  2. Enter the Mark Out Of for each assessment.

  3. Distribute weights so the total equals 100% for the component/subject.

  4. Click Accept Changes.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t I edit the Mark Out Of after capturing marks?

The Mark Out Of field cannot be edited once learner marks have been captured, as changing the maximum would invalidate existing percentages. All captured marks for that assessment must be deleted before the structure can be modified.

How do I request a new subject that doesn’t exist in the system?

New subjects require specific LURITS/SA-SAMS codes for departmental reporting. Send the subject name, grade and LURITS number to support@d6plus.co.za.
